CLASS / COURSE DESCRIPTION

A Weekend on the Wheel - 27th & 28th June Spend a full weekend immersed in the art of wheel throwing at Klayskool. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to improve your existing pottery skills, this hands-on course offers the perfect opportunity to develop confidence at the wheel in a relaxed and supportive studio environment. With plenty of time to practise, experiment, and receive individual guidance, you’ll learn the key techniques needed to create successful thrown forms. There is no rush - just time to get comfortable with the clay, refine your skills, and enjoy the creative process. Day One: Throwing on the Wheel The first day is dedicated to learning and practising wheel throwing techniques. Beginners will focus on the fundamentals, including: Preparing and centring clay Coning and controlling the clay on the wheel Pulling walls and shaping pots Developing confidence and consistency Those with previous experience will have the opportunity to refine their technique, explore larger forms, and experiment with throwing multiple components. Day Two: Finishing and Decorating On the second day, you’ll learn how to refine and complete your work through: Trimming and finishing thrown pieces Making and attaching handles Adding decorative details and surface texture Attaching components such as spouts, feet, and other features Understanding the next stages of the ceramic process By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a greater understanding of wheel throwing techniques and the confidence to continue developing your pottery skills. Suitable for beginners and improvers. All materials, tools, and full lunch are provided (dietary preferences will be catered for) All work produced during the sessions is charged at £10.00 per kilogram for firing.
