OUR BASIC TASTER CLASS
Our one-off basic taster classes are made for people who have never touched clay before, or those who have a bit of experience and just want to get back into it.
It’s fun, messy and there’s plenty of hand building, plus throwing on the wheel.
More about our Basic Taster Session
-
You’ll learn the basics of throwing on a wheel, plus a range of hand building skills through demonstrations and plenty of hands on exercises.
-
We then fire and glaze 3-4 pieces of work that you make, which can be collected 3-4 weeks later (it’s a lengthy firing process!).
-
Basic taster sessions are 3 hours long. There are a maximum of 10 people in a class.

OUR 3 SESSION PRACTICE TASTER CLASS
The practice taster consists of three sessions.
Each session is three hours.
Usually on consecutive weeks.
More about our Practice Taster Classes
-
This is designed for folk who have taken the basic taster and are now keen to make the next step.
-
It would suit those who perhaps have already got some basic skills and just want a refresher.
-
It might also suit those who just want to come and see what our klay skool is like. If you have some experience maybe we will just leave you to carry on!
-
If you come to the practice taster after the basic taster and you still feel quite inexperienced then you will get some personal one to one attention from our teacher or teachers.
-
Essentially session one is to make your pots. They can either be thrown or hand-built.
-
Session two is where you trim [tidy up] your pots. To trim pots, they need to have dried to what we call the leather hard stage.
-
If you get your trimming done quite quickly you might well find some more time for a bit more throwing.
-
Session three is where we decorate the pots in the leather hard stage.
-
The decorating techniques we show will end up with you using slip [coloured klay] or maybe underglazes.
-
These pots are then dried until they are ready for Firing. Once dried and fired you can come to collect your pots. This usually takes two to four weeks. Longer in the winter!
-
We definitely suggest if you are going to try this practice taster session, then click on the read more button below.
